Bettina Abarbanell
Bettina Abarbanell (born 1961 in Hamburg ) is a German literary translator.
Life
Bettina Abarbanell studied in Tübingen and in the USA. She worked in Frankfurt am Main and in 1997 moved with her family to Potsdam , where her husband Stephan Abarbanell (* 1957) worked.
Abarbanell a number of translations from English into German has developed, among them novels by authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald , Denis Johnson , Rachel Kushner , Elizabeth Taylor , Catherine Lacey and Jonathan Franzen , whose first German translation Corrections still for Alexander Fest Verlag manufactured. For Franzen, who speaks German himself, she subsequently also translated articles and essays, and occasionally she also exchanges ideas with him personally on translation issues.
Abarbanell received the "Translator Prize" from the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Foundation in 2014 and a Barthold Heinrich Brockes grant from the German Translation Fund in 2015 .
Abarbanell is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
