Bettina Braun (born March 31, 1969 in Hamburg ) is a German documentary filmmaker , author and director .

Life

After graduating from high school, Bettina Braun began training in London . She studied art and graphic design at Harrow College of Higher Education in 1988/89, and graphic design at Central St. Martins College from 1990 to 1993 . From 1995 to 1997 she completed additional studies at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne .

During her studies in London and Cologne, she worked as a freelance director (including for the BBC and WDR ) and as a designer . In the late 1990s she also worked as an editor and author (including for WDR, Arte , RTL , VOX and ZDF ). Bettina Braun achieved nationwide fame through her documentary What are you living? on ZDF ( Das kleine Fernsehspiel ), in which she accompanied a group of young migrants in their everyday lives to grow up. A recurring moment in her documentary work is the use of beta cams or DV cams , which deliberately create the impression of personal closeness to the protagonists.

Since 2004 she has been a substitute professor at the Lippe and Höxter University of Applied Sciences in the media production department for audiovisual media design .

Bettina Braun has two sons and lives in Cologne.
