Bettina Cadenbach

Bettina Cadenbach (born July 19, 1960 in Osnabrück ) is a German diplomat . From July 2015 to 2016 she was the German ambassador to Georgia .

Life and diplomacy

Bettina Cadenbach studied Romance studies , German literature and political science at the universities in Bonn , Hamburg and Hanover from 1979 to 1986 . She then worked as a journalist. From 1988 to 1992 she worked at the cultural office of the city of Osnabrück.

In 1992 Bettina Cadenbach joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Republic of Germany . After her preparatory service at the diplomatic school in Bonn-Ippendorf , she worked from 1994 to 1997 as a policy and protocol officer at the German embassy in Ankara . From 1997 to 2000 she worked at the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office for European security and defense policy .

From 2000 to 2004, Bettina Cadenbach worked at the German Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York , before she was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to the German Embassy in Tallinn from 2004 to 2006 .

In 2006 she returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Berlin. Until 2009 she was head of the office of the Minister of State for Europe, Günter Gloser .

From 2009 to 2012 Bettina Cadenbach was the ambassador's permanent representative at the German Embassy in Tehran . From 2012 to 2015, she headed the Department for the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU at the Foreign Office.

On July 14, 2015, Bettina Cadenbach presented her credentials as the new German ambassador in Tbilisi to Georgian President Giorgi Margwelashvili . In 2016 she was replaced by Heike Peitsch and was then appointed security policy officer at the Federal Foreign Office.

In 2019, she was appointed Assistant Secretary General of NATO.
