Beverly Hope Atkinson

Beverly Hope Atkinson (born December 9, 1935 in New York City , New York - † December 11, 2001 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Atkinson studied at City College of New York after graduating from Hughes High School in Manhattan . She received her acting training from Lee Strasberg in New York in the 1960s and became a member of The Actors Studio . She played in theaters in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle, and took part in a theater tour of Scandinavia. In Europe she also performed in London's West End .

She moved to Hollywood in the early 1970s , where she mainly worked in television. One of her few feature film roles was that of the prostitute Alice in Richard Fleischer's crime film Polizeirevier Los Angeles-Ost from 1972. She also had a major supporting role in the science fiction film UFOria . She has appeared in a number of television films , including The Shame of Forgetting by Joseph Sargent with Leonard Nimoy in the lead role. By the early 1990s, Atkinson guest starred on numerous series including Bronk , Baretta and Trapper John, MD . From 1984 to 1986 she played the recurring role of drug addict Vivian DeWitt in the crime series Hill Street Police Station.

After her last role in 1991 she retired from show business and devoted herself to language studies and painting. She also worked as an acting teacher. She died of cancer in 2001 at the Midway Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 66.
