Binaural (German: "two-eared", see also binaural sound recording ) is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam . The album was released in May 2000 on Epic Records / Sony Music . The cover shows the hourglass nebula .
history
After the album Yield , the band took a short break. Binaural was recorded with Tchad Blake from September 1999 to January 2000 at Studio Litho, Seattle , Washington . Here was Eddie Vedder a writer's block to overcome. Guitarist Mike McCready had to undergo rehabilitation because of drug problems . The band members initially worked individually on the song material - only then did a joint work process take place. Vedder called the work on the album a "construction job", in German a "construction order".
On May 23, 2000, the binaural tour for the album began in Lisbon . It led first through Europe, then through North America. From this tour the band released 72 so-called " official bootlegs ". A DVD entitled Touring Band 2000 was also released .

The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 4 on the German charts. Binaural was the first album that did not reach platinum status. It has been certified gold by the RIAA .
