biography

1991-1994

With Pearl Jam Abbruzzese recorded, among other things, the two albums Vs. (1993) and Vitalogy (1994) as well as an MTV Unplugged concert. He played the drums on the Vitalogy album , but was fired from the band before the release date. According to his own statement, the reasons for this are not known to him. He also no longer maintains contact with the band and can no longer identify with the music that Pearl Jam produced after he was kicked out. However, Abbruzzese still receives royalties for album sales and other things.

After Pearl Jam

After being kicked out of the Pearl Jam in 1994, Abbruzzese moved from Seattle to a small village in Arizona , coped with his drug problem, played drums in various bands and often tried his hand at his own projects. These include the band Green Romance Orchestra . For this project, Abbruzzese teamed up with musicians he knew before the Pearl Jam to record two albums in Texas . Together with Stevie Salas and Bernard Fowler , for whom he produced and mastered albums on his own record label , he also had the band IMF , which mainly appeared as a live band.

today

So far he has never been able to achieve a similarly successful status with his projects that would be comparable to his time at Pearl Jam. Although he was even asked by Axl Rose to play with Guns N 'Roses and also rehearsed successfully with the band, he did not like the airs of the band members and the commercial orientation and bureaucracy at Guns N' Roses.

Abbruzzese now lives in Texas with his wife, a high school teacher, and their child.

Playing technique

Abbruzzese describes himself as a hard hitter , which means that he usually hits his drums hard , which gave him some problems during the Pearl Jam days. At the time he sat down with cortisone injections to prevent tendinitis on his wrists. Nowadays, despite playing in a similar way, he no longer has this problem.
