Birganj ( Nepali वीरगञ्ज Bīrgañj ) is a border town in the central Terai of Nepal , approx. 190 km west of Kathmandu , 2 km north of the Indian border and the border town of Raxaul at an altitude of approx. 80 m . It is the administrative seat of the Parsa district . Birganj has the 2nd order town charter .
The urban area covers 21.17 km².
The Tribhuvan Rajmarg highway connects Birganj with the capital Kathmandu . The Simara Airport is located 20 km north-northeast of Birganj. Most of the country's imports go through Birganj. In addition, there are important industries in the city: sugar refinery, cigarettes, fish farming.
The main educational institution is the Tribhuvan University branch on Thakur Ram Multiple Campus .
Languages spoken in the city are: Bhojpuri , Nepali , Maithili , Newari , Marwari and Hindi .

In the 2001 census the population was 112,484, in the 2011 census 135,904.
