The Tribhuvan Rajmarg ( Nepali त्रिभूवन राजपथ ; English Tribhuvan Highway ) is a highway in Nepal that connects the city of Birganj , located in the south on the Indian border, with the centrally located capital Kathmandu . It was built with Indian help in 1956, was the country's first trunk road and connected Kathmandu with the outside world.
The 158 km long overland road runs from Birganj in a northerly direction. The Mahendra Rajmarg meets the highway when coming from the east and runs together for a while to the north. At Hetauda , the Mahendra Rajmarg branches off to the west. The Tribhuvan Rajmarg continues its course north and crosses the mountain ranges of the Front Himalayas . The trunk road passes Thaha and Naubise . Later she turns to the east. The Prithvi Rajmarg meets the Tribhuvan Rajmarg coming from the west. This eventually reaches the greater Kathmandu area. The Tribhuvan Rajmarg forms a section of the Asian highway AH42 .
