Kalaiya ( Nepali कलैया ) is a city ( municipality ) in the eastern Terai of Nepal and the administrative seat in the Bara District of Province No. 2 .
The city is located 12 km east of Birganj and 10 km from the Indian border. The urban area covers 18.98 km².

The annual population growth of Kalaiya is 3.5%. The literacy rate is 55.6%. At the 2011 census, the city of Kalaiya had 42,826 inhabitants (22,383 of them male) in 20,443 households.
