Gadhimai ( Nepali गढिमाई ) is a city in the central Terai of Nepal in the Bara district .
The city was created in 2014 by amalgamating the Village Development Committees (VDCs) Chhata Pipra , Dumbarwana , Fattepur , Jitpur Bhawanipur and Pipara Simara . The city is named after the goddess Gadhimai . It is located 15 km north-northeast of Birganj at the foot of the Siwaliks . The Tribhuvan Rajmarg (H2) highway from Birganj to Kathmandu runs through Gadhimai. The city has an airfield, Simara Airport . The urban area covers 153.93 km².

At the 2011 census, the VDCs from which the city of Gadhimai emerged had 83,367 inhabitants (41,797 of them male) in 15,959 households.
