Mahagadhimai ( Nepali महागढीमाई ) is a city in the central Terai of Nepal in the Bara district .

The city was created at the end of 2014 by amalgamating the Village Development Committees (VDCs) Babuain , Bariyarpur , Dahiyar , Ganj Bhawanipur , Patharhati and Telkuwa .

The Gadhimai Festival is held every five years in the Gadhimai Temple in Bariyarpur . This festival includes the largest offering to animals (rats, buffalo, pigs, goats, chickens, pigeons) worldwide to appease the goddess Gadhimai .

The urban area of ​​Mahagadhimai covers 40.3 km².

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city of Mahagadhimai had 38,751 inhabitants (19,867 of them male) in 5812 households.
