Hetauda ( Nepali हेटौडा ) is the capital of the Nepalese province of Bagmati and the administrative seat of the Makwanpur district .

geography

Hetauda is about 132 kilometers by road (40 km as the crow flies) southwest of Kathmandu .

The city lies at an altitude of 463  m on the River Rapti ( Eastern Rapti ) in the Inner Terai in the far east of the so-called Chitwan Valley .

The first road connection between Kathmandu and the outside world led from Hetauda via the Tribhuvan Rajmarg . The city is also on the important east-west national road, the Mahendra Rajmarg .

The nearest airport is Simara Airport near Gadhimai , approx. 30 km south of the city.

history

The city has had the 2nd order city ​​charter since the end of 2014 . The neighboring Village Development Committees (VDCs) Basamadi , Churiyamai , Hatiya , Hurnamadi and Padam Pokhari were incorporated. The urban area grew from 47.77 km² to 261.4 km².

At the beginning of 2018, the city was designated as the provisional capital of Province No. 3 and, in the course of establishing the name of the province, it was made the final capital.

Residents

According to the 2011 census, Hetauda had 84,671 inhabitants (42,194 men) in 19,851 households. Taking into account the VDCs incorporated in 2014, the population increased to 152,875 (74,964 of them male) in 34,270 households.
