The Mechi Rajmarg ( Nepali मेची राजमार्ग ; English Mechi Highway ) is a highway in eastern Nepal , which leads in a north-south direction through the eponymous administrative zone Mechi .
The 268 km long interstate road connects the district capitals of the Mechi administrative zone. It crosses the mountain ranges of the Front Himalayas as well as the upstream plain of the eastern Terai Nepal.
From Taplejung , the northern end point, the trunk road leads over the left Tamor tributaries Kabeli and Hewa to Phidim . It then crosses the Ilam district and passes the cities of Ilam and Suryodaya . The Mechi Rajmarg leaves the mountains and reaches Birtamod , where the intersection with the Mahendra Rajmarg is. The road continues south. It passes Bhadrapur , which lies on the west bank of the Mechi River , and finally ends at Kechana in the extreme southeast of Nepal on the border with India .
