Bhadrapur ( Nepali भद्रपुर ) is a city ( municipality ) and the administrative seat in the district of Jhapa in the province No. 1 in the far east of Nepal on the Indian border.

The city lies on the border river Mechi , over which a bridge is currently being built.

Bhadrapur is one of the oldest places in Nepal with city rights and was once an important and prosperous border and trading place. With the construction of the first bridge over the Mechi at Kakarbhitta ( Mechinagar ), 14 km further north, Bhadrapur lost its economic importance. With the construction of a bridge it is hoped that there will be more commercial traffic with neighboring India .

Bhadrapur is still the location for central administrative and educational institutions. Bhadrapur has an airfield in the Chandragadhi district with regular connections to Kathmandu . There are larger tea plantations in the area. The urban area covers 10.56 km².

Residents

At the 2011 census, the city of Bhadrapur had 18,164 inhabitants (8,880 of them male) in 4,248 households.
