Ilam ( Nepali इलाम Ilam ) is a city ( municipality ) in eastern Nepal and administrative center of the eponymous district in the province No. 1, .
The city, located at around 1000 meters above sea level, is particularly known for its tea cultivation; the tea grown there is considered to be of particularly high quality. The river Kankai (also Mai Khola ) flows east and later south past the city of Ilam. The Mechi Rajmarg highway runs through Ilam. The urban area covers 26.63 km².
