The Birnbaumbach also Bach vom Birnbaumteich or Birnbaumgrundbach , is an orographically right tributary of the Selke in the Lower Harz in Saxony-Anhalt .

course

The stream has two headwaters, each about a kilometer long. The one on the left arises near the intersection of K2352 and L235 in the Neudorf district . There used to be a settlement called Birnbaum nearby . The left arm of the source has two larger tributaries, both at about the same level - about ninety meters below the L235. The one on the left is forty meters long, the one on the right about 65 meters. The right arm of the source arises near the intersection of L235 and K2364 (Mühlweg). Here the Silberhütter Kunstgraben flows directly into the headwaters of the stream.

Both arms of the spring arise at a height of around 435 meters. A few meters below the junction of the spring arms, at about 400 meters above sea level, the Birnbaumbach is dammed in the Birnbaumteich . Below the pear tree pond, about 750 m below the junction of the spring arms, the stream divides into two arms, which join again after half a kilometer, at a height of 368.3 meters.

A few meters below the junction, the brook is dammed at a height of 365 meters in a small reservoir in Hellergrund .

Here the Birnbaumbach has an unnamed tributary on the left that flows into the pond. The stream now flows around the Wolfsberge and turns a previously north-westerly course towards the northeast. Almost 100 meters above the mouth, the brook crosses under the L234 and, after a total of 2.5 kilometers, flows into the Selke on the right near the Rinkenmühle location in Silberhütte .

The brook serves as the receiving water of the Tiefen Birnbaumstollen , which flows out below the Pirnbaumteich.
