The history of the Diocese of Aachen is quite young compared to that of other German dioceses and is also divided into two sections that are more than 100 years apart.

In 1821 the diocese of Aachen was dissolved and rebuilt in 1930.
2 Joseph Heinrich Peter Vogt 1930-1937 * September 8, 1865 in Schmidt (Nideggen) near Monschau ( Eifel ), ordained a priest on August 19, 1888 in Cologne , elected Bishop of Aachen on December 10, 1930 and on January 30, 1931 by Pope Pius XI. confirmed, episcopal ordination introduced on March 19, 1931 and March 25, 1931 in the re-established diocese of Aachen, † October 5, 1937.
Hermann Joseph Strater 1938-1943 In the Sedis vacancy , the auxiliary bishop in Aachen was appointed as apostolic administrator on May 15, 1938 , after he had initially served as vicar capitular since October 5, 1937 .
