The diocese of Aberdeen ( lat . : Dioecesis Aberdonensis ) with seat in Aberdeen is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland .
history
Aberdeen was already a bishopric in 1131, but it went under with the Scottish Reformation in 1577.
On July 23, 1727, the Vicariate Apostolic Scotland was divided into two Vicariats: the " Lowland District " and the "Highland District", on February 13, 1827 the Vicariate Apostolic "Highland District" with the Breve Quanta laetitia by Leo XII. Renamed "Northern District". In 1855 the areas of Shetland , Orkney and Caithness were added to the North Pole Mission .
In the course of the restructuring of the Catholic hierarchy in Scotland, Pope Leo XIII. by virtue of the circumscription bull Ex supremo Apostolatus the vicariate "Northern District" on March 4, 1878 with the areas of Shetland , Orkney and Caithness of the dissolved North Pole Mission to today's diocese , which was subordinate to the newly established Archdiocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh as one of four suffragan bishops .
There is also the diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney of the Scottish Episcopal Church .
