The Diocese of Mati ( Latin : Dioecesis Matiensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in the south of Mindanao in the Philippines , with its seat in Mati City . It includes the Philippine province of Davao Oriental .
history
Pope John Paul II founded the diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Episcopus Tagamnus on February 16, 1984 from cession of territory by the Diocese of Tagum and made it subordinate to the Archdiocese of Davao as a suffragan diocese .
From the founding of the diocese until October 2014, Patricio Hacbang Alo was the first local ordinary .
