The Diocese of Orvieto ( Latin Dioecesis Urbevetana-Tudertina , Italian Diocese of Orvieto-Todi ) is in Italy located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Orvieto . It reports directly to the Holy See and belongs to the ecclesiastical region of Umbria . The diocese is divided into 95  parishes .

history

The Orvieto diocese was established in the 6th century. Orvieto was the refuge of the Popes on several occasions when the situation in Rome became too dangerous. Pope Clement VII , for example, fled here during the Sacco di Roma .

On September 30, 1986, the Orvieto diocese was united with the Todi diocese . Since then it has been called the Orvieto-Todi Diocese .
