Björn Dahlem (* 1974 in Munich ) is a German contemporary artist and professor at the Bauhaus University Weimar .

life and work

Dahlem studied from 1994 to 2000 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Hubert Kiecol . Björn Dahlem has become known since the 2000s "through his depictions of interstellar space, galaxies, superclusters or black holes." He designs expansive installations. He uses everyday materials such as wood, neon tubes , foam polystyrene and other raw materials for his work . From found objects and everyday objects, he develops sculptures that refer to theories and models of cosmology, astronomy, particle physics and quantum mechanics. It is “in Dahlem's work about a connection between science and philosophy, about the boundaries and transitions between natural science and theology.” Dahlem was also called the “architect of intergalactic events”. The microcosm is also increasingly at the center of Björn Dahlem's interest. He shows his smaller works in showcases that are reminiscent of “reliquary shrines”.

Between 2005 and 2011 Björn Dahlem visiting professor was at the University of the Arts , the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg , the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig . From 2012 to 2017 he held a professorship for sculpture at the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig. He then became a professor of fine art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar.
