Bjørn Daniel Lyng (born July 8, 1925 in Hurum in the Fylke Buskerud , Norway ; † October 12, 2006 in Patalavaca , Gran Canaria ) was a Norwegian inventor and major entrepreneur .

Life

Lyng grew up in the small town of Kråkmo in Leksvik municipality . He learned the blacksmith's trade and built a small power station in his home town. After the Second World War he moved to Vanvikan, a town in the municipality of Leksvik, and founded his own hardware factory in 1947 and Trøndelag Emailverk in Rissa in 1959 . The company Leksvik Edelmetall, founded in 1958, went bankrupt in 1960. The company Leksvikarmatur , founded in 1961, produces cranes and mixer taps and still exists today. In 1970 Lyng founded a plastic pipe factory, in 1978 Elsafe International. The enterpriseLyng Drilling was founded in 1984 but sold to Schlumberger in 2006 . The company proved to be a pioneer in the production of high-performance drill bits for oil production. On the Spanish mainland, Lyng ran a winery and several factories.

In his later years, the entrepreneur pursued a major tourist project in Patalavaca on Gran Canaria. In the timeshare facility Anfi del Mar 869 apartments are available. In 1997 the Anfi Beach Club received the certificate “Number 1 of all holiday resorts in Spain” from the Spanish Ministry of Tourism.

Lyng has been married five times and has six children. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, he was appointed Knight 1st Class of the Order of Saint Olav .
