Career

society

Goldbæk started his career at B in 1901 . After playing for half a year for Næstved BK , for whom he made his debut in the men's division, in the spring of 1987 , he moved abroad and signed with FC Schalke 04 . With Schalke, he was relegated from the Bundesliga in the 1987/88 season . The recovery did not succeed in the 1988/89 season . In December 1989 he moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern .

With the Kaiserslautern, he won the cup in 1990 and German champion in 1991 . In the season after the championship, the club played with Goldbæk in the European Cup , in which they met FC Barcelona in the second round . After a 2-0 away defeat in the first leg, FC Kaiserslautern led in the second leg until stoppage time 3-0, with Goldbæk scoring the third goal. In stoppage time, however, FC Barcelona scored 3-1 through José Mari Bakero and advanced to the next round on the away goals rule .

In the fall of 1993 Goldbæk left Kaiserslautern and switched to Tennis Borussia Berlin , which was playing second class at the time. With the club he was relegated to the regional league . After nine months in Berlin, he signed with 1. FC Köln, which was then playing in the Bundesliga . In 1996 he returned to Denmark and played for FC Copenhagen , with whom he won the 1997 Danish Cup.

In January 1999 he went abroad again; this time he signed with Chelsea . There he won the FA Cup in 2000 . After losing his regular place at Chelsea, Goldbæk signed during the winter break of the 2000/01 season with district rivals FC Fulham , who were playing in the Football League Championship at the time. With Fulham Goldbæk rose to the end of the season in the Premier League. The following season he reached the UI Cup with the club ; The UEFA Cup was achieved through this competition .

For the 2003/04 season Goldbæk returned to Germany and signed with Rot-Weiss Essen , since he had moved to Gladbeck with his family , and the reputation of the club and the average attendance were reasons for the change. He made his debut for Essen on August 3, 2003 in the starting line-up on the first day of the Regionalliga Nord against the second team of his former club 1. FC Cologne. At Rot-Weiss Essen, the now almost 35-year-old quickly became a regular player and top performer. On May 23, 2004 RW Essen rose to the 2nd Bundesliga after a 7-0 win on matchday 32 against the second team from Goldbæk's former club FC Schalke 04. At the beginning of the new season he was named the new captain. In the season in which Essen could not prevent relegation, Goldbæk played 31 times. The Dane, who had announced before the end of the season that he would not accompany the club to the regional league in the event of relegation, then left Essen. A short time later he ended his career.

National team

On November 18, 1987 Goldbæk made his debut for the national team of Denmark in the 0-1 defeat in the qualifier for the football tournament of the 1988 Summer Olympics against (West) Germany . It took almost four years before he was used again for the national team. In the 1-1 draw in Odense against Bulgaria , he was in the starting line-up. He was also there in qualifying for the 1992 European Football Championship . However, Goldbæk was absent from the actual tournament, in which Denmark took part in spite of the non-qualifying sport and won the title.

After he completed a short stint on June 2, 1993 in a 4-0 win in the qualifying game for the 1994 World Cup against Albania , it took three years for Goldbæk to return to the national team. On September 1, 1996 in the qualifying game for the 1998 World Cup against Slovenia Bjarne Goldbæk came on after 22 minutes for Ole Bjur. In the end, the team qualified for the 1998 World Cup. Goldbæk was represented in the squad this time. In the tournament, in which Goldbæk was not used, Denmark advanced to the quarter-finals, in which they narrowly failed against the then defending champion and later finalist Brazil (2: 3).

Goldbæk was also involved in qualifying for the 2000 European Football Championship . Here you made the qualification in the relegation, in which you defeated Israel . Goldbæk was also involved in the tournament itself. At the European Football Championship 2000 they were eliminated after the group stage. The last group game against the Czech Republic was Goldbæk's only tournament appearance. Goldbæk was also involved in the subsequent qualification for the 2002 World Cup . On April 25, 2001, he played his last appearance for the national team against Slovenia; here he came to a brief deployment of six minutes. In total, he played 28 international matches in which he did not score a goal.
