The Black Peak is a stratovolcano of the Aleutian Range , 727 km southwest of Anchorage .
The 1032 m high volcano is located on the Alaska Peninsula . It is 48.5 km east-northeast of Mount Veniaminof and 50 km west-southwest of Mount Aniakchak . No eruptions from historical times are documented. The Black Peak lava dome is located within an ice-free caldera from the Middle Holocene with a diameter of about 3.5 km. There are two smaller lakes in the caldera, including the 678 m high Purple Lake . On the slopes of the volcano there are Andesitic lava flows and overlying Dazitic ash deposits.
The Black Lake is located 13 km south-west at the foot of the volcano.
The mountain was named as Sopka Chornaia by the Russian hydrographer Mikhail Dmitrijewitsch Tebenkow . Black Peak is the English translation.
