Blanco y Negro Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blanco y Negro (Spanish, black and white ) is an English record label that was founded in 1983 by Warner Records on the initiative of Geoff Travis and Mike Always. Travis founded Rough Trade Records in 1978 and ran the label. He also worked there as A&R boss. Mike Always had previous experience at Cherry Red Records .

“We went to Warner and asked for a label. They just said: "Sure, not an issue." The first thing we did was release the Everything But The Girl album, which sold a million copies. Mike left the following year and I've been running the label ever since. The advantage of the label is obvious: money. So I could afford The Jesus & Mary Chain . "

- Geoff Travis, 2002

The label became part of Warner Strategic Marketing in the 1990s, and later Rhino Records. There is no relationship with the Spanish label Blanco y Negro Music .
