The Hecht Blue Willow or Blue Green willow ( Salix caesia ) is a plant from the genus of willow ( Salix ) within the family of the pasture plants (Salicaceae). It is widespread mainly in Asia.

Vegetative characteristics
The pike-blue willow is a densely branched dwarf shrub that reaches heights of up to 70 centimeters. The bark of young twigs is reddish-brown or reddish-black and sometimes silky hairy; later the bark of the branches is bare, brown and shiny.
The alternate leaves arranged on the branches are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole is 1 to 3 millimeters long. The simple leaf blade is 0.5 to 3 centimeters long and 0.3 to 1 centimeter wide, elliptical to obovate, with a pointed, rarely blunt upper end and a wedge-shaped base . The leaf blade, bare on both sides, is dark green on top and bluish green on the underside. The leaf margin is almost smooth. The stipules are usually small.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period begins in May. The pike blue willow is dioeciously separated sex ( diocesan ). Kittens are formed as inflorescences . The sitting kittens are elongated with a length of 1 to 2 centimeters. The bracts are light brown, weak and hairy. The male flowers contain two stamens , the stamens are partially fused, the anthers dark blue-violet. In the female flowers, the ovary is almost sessile, hairy, the style relatively short and thick, the stigmas red and not divided and they have a nectar gland .
The yellowish to brown, hairy, two-lobed capsule fruits are 4 to 5 millimeters long. The seeds are surrounded by fine hairs.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 76.
Occurrence
The main distribution areas of Salix caesia are the Chinese autonomous regions of Xinjiang and Tibet ; Central Asia : Afghanistan , Kyrgyzstan , Tajikistan , Mongolia ; West and East Siberia , Pakistan and Kashmir . The blue-green willow is very rare in Europe in Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria.
It thrives in subalpine willow bushes and is a character species of Salicetum caesio-foetidae from the association Salicion waldsteinianae.
