Blinkworthia is a plant genus of the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). It includes two types of Asian origin. The generic name honors Robert Blinkworth, who collected plants in Myanmar.

description

Blinkworthia are shrubs or slender climbing plants . The stems are tomentose or hairy. The leaves are stalked , the leaf blades linear or elliptical and hairy or silky.

The flowers stand individually in the axils of the leaves and are nodding. They are accompanied by two to four leaf-like bracts . The five sepals are ovate-elongated to circular, leathery, slightly enlarged on the fruit and more or less the same shape. The crown is bell-shaped, waxy, the coronet is upright, almost entire or slightly five-lobed. The stamens do not protrude beyond the crown, the anthers are elongated. The pollen grains are spherical, pantoporate and finely prickly. The flower base is ring-shaped, the pistil does not protrude beyond the crown. The ovary is conical, more or less divided into two chambers and hairless. The stylus is thread-shaped and has a cephalic, bilobed scar .

The fruit is a hairless berry surrounded by the permanent calyx. The one to four seeds are hairless.

Occurrence

The species of the genus are common in China , Myanmar and northern Thailand .

Systematics

The genus includes two types:

Type species is Blinkworthia lycioides .

Within the bindweed family, the genus is classified into the tribe Ipomoeeae according to molecular biological knowledge .
