Blood & Oil is an American drama series developed by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne for ABC television . The focus of the television series is the young LeFever couple who are trying to get into the oil business and are fighting a bitter fight with an oil tycoon. Don Johnson , Chace Crawford and Rebecca Rittenhouse can be seen in the central leading roles . It premiered in the United States on September 27, 2015 on ABC.

New oil deposits are discovered in North Dakota , which has a serious impact on world politics and the area around the site. No matter if crooks, landowners or prospectors , they all want a share in the success. Also the young couple Billy and Cody LeFever. The two dream of breaking out of their humble circumstances and making big money. However, they weren't expecting the unscrupulous oil tycoon Hap Briggs to trick the two into taking high risks. But profit and loss are close together in this industry and so the marriage of the two will soon be challenged.

Production background
The project was written by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne in the mid-2000s, with Tony Krantz serving as executive producer. ABC bought the script in September 2011 but did not appoint a pilot for the 2012-2013 television season. For this reason, the script, which at that time was Boom, was passed on to USA Network . There they worked on the project together with the production company ABC Signature, but USA Network didn't shoot a pilot either. At the end of January 2015, the project returned to ABC and the broadcaster ordered a pilot film. The pilot was filmed in Salt Lake City , Utah .
A first season of the series was ordered on May 7, 2015. The series went under two name changes: Developed under the title Boom , it was announced as Oil on the Upfronts . In early June 2015 the title of the series was changed from Oil to Blood & Oil .
In October 2015 it was reported that the episode count would be reduced from 13 to 10 episodes. The reason given for this was the below-average rate development.

The casting call began in February 2015. Scott Michael Foster was able to secure the first leading role . Rebecca Rittenhouse was able to get hold of the central female lead . The following month, Don Johnson was the patriarch of the Briggs family, one of the central leading roles. Chace Crawford was cast in the lead male role and plays the serial husband of Rittenhouse's character. In mid-March 2015, the last leading role was cast with Amber Valletta . In late May 2015, Caitlin Carver and Yani Gellman , who played the roles of Lacey Briggs and AJ Menendez , respectively, left the series. Gellman was replaced by Adan Canto . Carver was initially replaced by Aurora Perrineau , who was then replaced with Miranda Rae Mayo .
Wilson Bethel , Yaani King and Tara Karsian were cast for the first episodes .

The premiere episode achieved a viewing rate of 6.36 million viewers and a rating of 1.4 and 4 percent in the advertising-relevant target group .
