Bob Mackie

Robert Gordon "Bob" Mackie (born March 24, 1939 in Monterey Park , California ) is an American fashion and costume designer who was awarded nine Emmys and nominated for three Academy Awards.

Private

From 1960 to 1963 Mackie was married to actress LuLu Porter . He was the father of a son who, however, died in 1993 at the age of 33. After his divorce until his death, he was in a relationship with the Iranian fashion designer Ray Aghayan .

Career

As a fashion designer, Mackie equipped Cher , Oprah Winfrey , Tina Turner , Madonna , Barbra Streisand , Marlene Dietrich , Elton John , Britney Spears , Steve Martin , Diana Ross , Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston with his fashion. He also designed several dresses for Barbie . Since 1962, Mackie has also designed costumes for films, television series, and television shows. His first job in this field was in the television film Arthur Freed's Hollywood Melody . For his artistic achievements in the film Lady Sings the Blues , he received an Oscar nomination in the category of best costume design at the 1973 Academy Awards with his partner Ray Aghayan and Norma Koch . He also designed the costumes for Barbra Streisand in the movie Funny Lady . For this he got his second nomination at the 1976 Academy Awards . He then designed some costumes for The Star Wars Holiday Special and Kesse Bees on the Mat before receiving his final Oscar nomination at the 54th Academy Awards for his performance on Dance in the Clouds .

Bob Mackie also received nine Emmys out of 32 nominations for his artistic achievements in Alice Through the Looking Glass , GIT on Broadway , Mitzi ... Roarin 'in the 20’s , Mitzi ... Zings Into Spring , Mama's Family , Carol & Company , Men, Movies & Carol , Cher: Live in Concert from Las Vegas and Cher: The Farewell Tour .
