Phyllis "Bobbie" Cryner (born September 13, 1961 in Woodland , California ) is an American country singer and songwriter.

Career

Bobbie Cryner was one of the great new country talents of the early 1990s who made a name for themselves with a more traditional sound. Her debut album on Epic was heavily honky tonk influenced and received excellent reviews. Daddy Laid the Blues on Me , He Feels Guilty and You Could Steal Me were Cryner's first minor country hits from 1993 to 1994. In addition, her debut includes a duet with Dwight Yoakam ( I Don't Care ). In a television appearance, Cryner was allowed to sing the classic 'Til I Can Make It on My Own' in a duet with Tammy Wynette .

After a divorce and problems with alcohol, Cryner got a second chance in 1996 with the album Girl of Your Dreams for MCA , which again received very good reviews, but again fell short of expectations commercially. With I Just Can't Stand to Be Unhappy (1995) and You'd Think He'd Know Me Better (1996) the work again only released two smaller hits. Another single, the autobiographical I Didn't Know My Own Strength , missed the charts.

After Cryner lost the record deal again, she concentrated on songwriting. In 1998 , Suzy Bogguss had a small hit with the title track for her album Nobody Love, Nobody Gets Hurt, and Lorrie Morgan brought the song You'd Think He'd Know Me Better to the bottom of the charts a second time. Trisha Yearwood had a top 20 success in 2000 with Real Love Woman from their album of the same name. Also, Lee Ann Womack took Stronger Than I Am a song of Cryner for their million-seller I Hope You Dance on. Cryner interpreted this song himself at a small concert in the Bluebird Café in Nashville , where Trisha Yearwood and Matraca Berg also performed.

In the last few years, things have become quieter around Cryner. But she's trying to get a third album. She has set up a crowdfunding area on her website for this purpose.
