Bodensee-Thurtalstrasse and Oberlandstrasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bodensee-Thurtalstrasse (BTS) and the Oberlandstrasse (OLS) are two complementary road construction projects currently being planned in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . With the yes to the network decision, the Thurgau voters made a fundamental decision on September 23, 2012 for the construction of these two relief roads.

Starting position

The population of the canton of Thurgau has grown significantly in recent years. As a result, the volume of traffic, especially in the Aachtal and Thur valleys , but also along the Obersee ( Lake Constance ) has risen sharply. The existing A7 motorway , which leads from Winterthur via the canton capital Frauenfeld to the state border near Kreuzlingen , only opens up the western part of the canton. Road traffic in the eastern half of the canton takes place on main and secondary roads .

target

The two new streets are intended to channel the volume of traffic and effectively relieve the towns and villages in Central and Oberthurgau from through traffic.

Projects

Bodensee-Thurtalstrasse (BTS)

The BTS is to be created as a non-directional car road . The maximum speed allowed will be 100 km / h, in tunnels 80 km / h. Today the T14 motorway slip road branches off from the A7 towards Weinfelden at the Grüneck motorway triangle .

The BTS will connect to the T14. Weinfelden is to be bypassed by the 3.2 km long Ottenberg tunnel to the north. The road continues via Bürglen and Sulgen to Amriswil . There is the southeastern connection of the Oberlandstrasse (OLS) to Kreuzlingen. The BTS continues to Arbon , where it will flow into the A1 motorway via the existing A1.1 motorway slip road .

At the BTS, 21% of the route is expected to be at ground level, 60% are in cuts and 19% are covered.

Oberlandstrasse (OLS)

The OLS will be built as a main road. The maximum speed will be between 50 and 80 km / h. The new road begins at the existing roundabout at the A7 Kreuzlingen Süd motorway exit and leads south of Kreuzlingen in an eastward direction to Langrickenbach and on to Arbon, where it will eventually flow into the new BTS. Two new branch roads are to connect Bottighofen and Scherzingen to the OLS.

At the OLS, 20% of the route is expected to be at ground level, 65% are in cuts and 15% are covered.

costs

The construction of the BTS is expected to cost CHF 1550 million and the OLS CHF 200 million.

Federal participation

In all probability, the construction, financing and operation of the BTS will be the responsibility of the federal government. It is planned that the BTS as part of the new network resolution of the federal government as expected N23 resp. A23 to be included in the national road network . I.

In 2013, the Swiss electorate rejected the network resolution at the ballot box. The no was actually not due to the largely undisputed network decision, but to the associated price increase for the motorway vignette from CHF 40 to CHF 100 per year. How the network resolution will now be implemented has not yet been decided.

The OLS with costs of around CHF 220 million will have to be created and paid for by the Canton of Thurgau. The canton planned to finance the OLS by increasing motor vehicle taxes. However, on September 23, 2012, the electorate rejected the increase. It is not yet clear how the financing will be carried out.

planning

It is planned to build the BTS in 3 stages from east to west:

1st stage: Existing A1.1 to the west of Amriswil
2nd stage: Amriswil to the east of Weinfelden
3rd stage: Weinfelden bypass with Ottenberg tunnel to the existing T14

A precise schedule does not yet exist and depends on when the federal government will add the project to the national road network.
