Bodo Lafferentz (* July 27, 1897 in Kiel , † January 17, 1975 ) was a functionary of the National Socialist organization Kraft durch Freude, among other things, organizer of the Bayreuth Festival during the Second World War and husband of the granddaughter of the composer Richard Wagner , Verena .

Life

Lafferentz was the son of a civil engineering contractor . He attended high school and volunteered to be a pioneer in 1914 at the age of seventeen . In 1918 he was taken prisoner as an officer and returned to Germany in 1920. He studied one semester at the TH Charlottenburg , then ten semesters in economics in Berlin .

In 1928, Bodo Lafferentz received his doctorate from the University of Kiel on the subject of "Economic Plan and Price Regulations". He then worked as a legal advisor in the management of the Association of German Employers' Associations and from 1929 was an honorary member of the board of directors of the Reich Institute for Unemployment Services and Unemployment Insurance. With effect from May 1, 1933 he became a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 2,594,441) and in November 1933 head of the “ Office for Travel, Hiking and Vacation ” of the organization “After Work”, which was later renamed “ Kraft durch Freude ” ( Kraft through Joy ) .

Lafferentz ran as head of office on the election proposal of the NSDAP on the list with the number 516 in the election to the German Reichstag on March 29, 1936, but did not enter the National Socialist Reichstag . At that time he lived in Berlin-Grunewald , Hubertusbader Strasse 30.

In January 1938, as Reichsamtsleiter, he was given overall management of the office in the central office of the German Labor Front in Berlin. In May 1937, together with Ferdinand Porsche and Jakob Werlin, he became one of the managing directors of the Society for Preparation of the German Volkswagen mbH (GeZuVor) and finally in 1938 one of the managing directors of " Volkswagenwerk GmbH " on an honorary basis . Due to his tours of possible locations, the location for the Volkswagen factory was selected by the municipality of Fallersleben .

Lafferentz was a member of the SS (SS-No. 347.155), from 1939 SS-Obersturmbannführer and member of the staff of the Race and Settlement Main Office of the SS. In 1942, he founded a society for research and development to open up oil shale deposits and use wind power to investigate, as well as in Bayreuth under the name "Institute for physical research" a branch of the Flossenbürg concentration camp for the development of the weapon of retaliation 2 . He was the organizer of the Bayreuth “War Festival” and was married to Verena Wagner (1920–2019), the daughter of Siegfried Wagner (son of the composer Richard Wagner ) and Winifred Wagner , in his second marriage since December 26, 1943 . This marriage had five children: Amelie (* 1944), Manfred (* 1945), Winifred (* 1947), Wieland (* 1949) and Verena (* 1952).

At the end of the Second World War , Lafferentz was interned. After his release in 1949, he was classified as “less burdened” in the denazification process . After that he lived with his family in Nussdorf . He had a small operation for swing fire equipment and Heizmotoren.

Bodo Lafferentz died on January 17, 1975 near Überlingen on Lake Constance.
