Rüdiger Hachtmann (born February 3, 1953 in Celle ) is a German historian .

Life

Hachtmann studied history at the Technical University of Berlin from 1972 to 1979 and, in parallel, from 1973 to 1979 political science at the Free University of Berlin . Having 1981-1983 scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation had been, he worked from 1983 to 1986 as a research associate in the DFG project on biographies social democratic Reichstag and Member of Parliament until 1933 and his PhD in 1986 with a study on the industrial labor in the Third Reich to of the TU Berlin. There he worked from 1986 to 1991 as a research assistant and from 1991 to 1997 as a research assistant to Reinhard Rürup and completed his habilitation in 1995 with a thesis on the political and social history of the revolution in Berlin in 1848 .

In addition to substitute professorships at the University of Bremen (1998/1999) and the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg (2000/2001), from 1998 to 2006 Hachtmann headed the DFG project Overall Presentation: The German Labor Front 1933 to 1945 and the History of the General Administration of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in the “Third Reich” at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science , Berlin, from which a two-volume standard work on science management in the Third Reich emerged .

Hachtmann has been an adjunct professor at the TU Berlin since 2001 . In addition, from 2007 to 2018 he was head of the project The Fordist Century at the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam. In 2015 he was elected a member of the learned society Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin . Since the beginning of 2019 he has been a Senior Fellow at the Center for Contemporary History.

In April 2013, Hachtmann was appointed by the then Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) to the Independent Commission of Historians , which is tasked with reviewing the history of the Reich Ministry of Labor during the Nazi era.

Hachtmann has been married since 1982 and has three daughters.
