The Bohem Press AG is an on paintings- and children's books specialized Swiss publishing house based in Zurich .

history

The publishing house was founded in 1973 by Otakar Božejovský and Štěpán Zavřel in Zurich. In 2001, the Italian branch Bohem Press Italia emerged from the Swiss Bohem Press and was taken over by the Frankfurt Baumhaus publishing group in 2007. Hartmut Fromm has been the owner of Bohem Press AG since 2010. The German offshoot, Bohem Press GmbH, was founded in May 2014 and is a joint project between Coppenrath Verlag and Bohem Press AG.

Internationality is a characteristic of Bohem: Americans, Belgians, Germans, French, Italians, Japanese, Croatians, Poles, Russians, Swedes, Swiss, Spanish, Czechs and many others have already written and illustrated books for the publisher. The publisher has published over 300 books since its inception. Bohem Press AG also publishes titles in Schwiizerdüütsch, as well as songs and stories from Switzerland under the heading “Heimatliebe”.

Authors and illustrators

The authors and illustrators whose works have been published by Bohem Press include Max Bolliger , Stefan Gemmel , Rolf Krenzer , David McKee , Ingrid Mylo , Jan Lenica , Arcadio Lobato, Regine Schindler , Peter Sís and Józef Wilkoń . There are also new faces in the author and illustrator base, for example Maja Bach , Maria Bogade and Olaf Hajek .

Since its inception, several books and illustrations published by Bohem Press and authors working for Bohem Press have received various awards. The more recent awards include the Golden Apple awarded to Luboslav Palo for the original illustrations for the two books "1 + 1 = 2" and "Not caught!" At the Illustrations Biennale in Bratislava 2005.
