Bonaparte is the artist name of the Swiss songwriter and producer Tobias Jundt. Bonaparte was founded in Barcelona in 2006 after a road trip lasting several months and his style of music is often referred to as "Visual Trash Punk". Jundt gathers a large number of changing performers and musicians for live shows. Between 2006 and 2019 Bonaparte played over 700 concerts a. a. in Europe, New Zealand, the USA, China or Russia. At the beginning of December 2019 Bonaparte gave a farewell concert in Berlin.

sound

Bonaparte's sound is characterized by simple, punk-like harmonies. What is special about Bonaparte is the very rough and rustic sound. Sometimes it sounds like primitive recording techniques ("living room acoustics", also known as low fidelity or lo-fi), and that is probably intentional. At the same time, Bonaparte's sound (especially on the second record) is strongly influenced by digital music, so that this musical combination creates a complex sound.

Just a few lines from the album Too Much reveal Bonaparte's aim: "You know Tolstoy / I know Playboy [...] / You know too much too much". The Berliner Zeitung therefore describes the band as “analogue bohemians ” and states that the meaning of life in Bonaparte's world does not consist of gaining knowledge, but rather aims at increasing pleasure. Tobias Jundt, the head of the band, contradicts this statement. He advocates that both can and must exist.

Stage presence

The Bonaparte shows are characterized by an expressive stage performance, which is celebrated by the critics: The Berlin tip reported: “where they were, a sweaty and softly rocked crowd stood with lines in their ears”. The Tagesspiegel describes it as a “multi-ethnic state, ruled by the party emperor”, which unleashes a trash circus. Jundt sometimes appears alone, but mostly in a larger cast, which also changes. An indefinite number of artists belong to the circle of Bonaparte. As in the lyrics, Bonaparte's stage performance is also about crossing borders. Stripping people in animal costumes make the concert a grotesque show, the eroticism of which is sometimes fascinating, sometimes frightening. Animals also appear again and again in the shows in the form of disguised actors.
