reception

In addition to the publication of historical crime novels, he has published numerous scientific specialist publications. The author's thrillers are set in the Commissarius-Bischop series in 19th century Hamburg and in the Sonntag, Herbst and Jensen series in Ratzeburg and the surrounding area.

Commissarius-Bischop series

The author's crime novels are set in the 19th century in the Hanseatic city. In the first two books, the investigations are carried out by Commissioner Hendrik Bischop and, starting with the novel “Die Rote Stadt”, also by his son.

In addition to the criminal case, the first work from 2000, “The Dead in the Fleet”, also deals with Hamburg's architectural policy after the Hamburg fire of 1842. The “suspicious machinations” that the author explains also include well-known Hamburg personalities of the time (e.g. Alexis de Chateauneuf , Gottfried Semper and Martin Johann Jenisch ). The case itself is about an unknown man who is murdered and dragged out of the canal. The author believes that his book must be viewed as “walking a tightrope between historical reality and fiction”.

The second book in the series about the Hamburg inspector is devoted to another murder case and the relationship between the inspector and his son, Sören, who was 14 at the time. The expansion of the port in the 1860s is taken up as one of the main themes. Meyn shows which interests collide in such large-scale projects, for example speculators and major shipping companies want to make a profit and have a say in the implementation.

In the third case Sören Bischop comes after graduation returned to Hamburg and as a budding lawyer by the Senate commissioned a series of murders of citizenship deputies investigate. In this novel, personalities such as Johannes Versmann , William Henry O'Swald or a friendship with Adolph Woermann are again incorporated into the events.
