Borna Gojo (born February 27, 1998 in Split ) is a Croatian tennis player .

Career

Gojo already played tennis on the ITF Junior Tour, but was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament there . At the beginning of 2016, he achieved his best position in the junior world rankings with rank 143.

In 2016 he switched to the pros and from then on played matches on the third-class ITF Future Tour . On this he was able to reach the first final in Antalya in December , which he lost to Aleksandar Lasow . He won his first two future titles in doubles. He finished his first year as a professional in 830th place in the world rankings . In January 2017, he began studying at Wake Forest University , where he also played college tennis , but was unable to take part in fewer professional tournaments. At the end of the year he took part in two tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour in India , which is more expensive than the Future Tour. In Pune and Bangalore he survived the qualification and had to compete in the main draw against Adrián Menéndez , second in the seed list . In the second match he won and moved into the round of 16. He finished the year in 600th place.

In 2018 Gojo achieved small successes at Challengers in addition to college tennis. He also survived the qualification in Lexington and Vancouver and reached the quarter-finals and the second round respectively. A week later he got a wildcard for the main draw in Winston-Salem , the city of his university . There he was defeated by Ryan Harrison . In the same month he cracked the top 500 in the world rankings for the first time.

In 2019 he made his debut for the Croatian Davis Cup team .
