Boycobo (also: Boicobo ) is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Boycobo is the central place of the canton Boycobo in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Huacaya in the province Luis Calvo . The village is located at an altitude of 936 m on the left bank of the Río Huacaya , which flows into the Río Pilcomayo about 70 km further south . Six kilometers east of the village runs the Voranden chain of the Serranía Huacaya , which here reaches heights of up to over 1,700 m.

Boycobo is located in the winter-humid subtropics , between the mountainous region of the Cordillera de Tajsara o Tarachaca in the west and the Bolivian Chaco in the east.
The annual average temperature of the region is 23 ° C (see Cuevo climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate between 18 ° C in June and July and 26 ° C in November and January. The climate is semi-humid and has a clear dry season from May to September with monthly rainfall of less than 20 mm; the annual precipitation is almost 800 mm, from December to March monthly values of 110 to 160 mm are reached.

Boycobo is 396 kilometers south of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.
The paved road Ruta 9 leads from Santa Cruz via Abapó and Ipitá to Boyuibe and another 187 kilometers to Yacuiba on the Bolivian southern border with Argentina . Twenty kilometers before Boyuibe, a dirt road branches off from Ruta 9 in a south-westerly direction, which after fifteen kilometers reaches the village of Cuevo and continues in a westerly direction. Fifteen kilometers west of Cuevo, a dirt road branches off to the south and reaches Boycobo after another 37 kilometers and continues to Huacaya, eight kilometers away .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a significant proportion of Guaraní population, in the municipality of Huacaya 48.6 percent of the population speak the Guaraní language .
