Boyd Kenneth Packer (* 10. September 1924 in Brigham City , Utah ; † 3. July 2015 in Cottonwood Heights , Utah) was an American prophet, seer, and revelator of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to and from 2008 to President of their Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on his death .

Life

Boyd Kenneth Packer, who was of Danish descent on his mother's side , did his military service in the US Army Air Forces between 1942 and 1946 after attending school . After completing his military service, he first studied at Weber College in Ogden , where he acquired an associate degree in 1948 , before completing a degree at Utah State University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science (BS). He then completed a postgraduate degree at Utah State University in 1953 with a Master of Science (MS).

He then worked in the private sector at Zion's First National Bank , a subsidiary of Zions Bank Corporation , Utah Home Fire Insurance C. , Murdock Travel and Beneficial Life Insurance . Most recently, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Prudential Life Insurance until 1995 .

Packer, 1962 at specialist training management a Doctor of Education (Ed.D. Educational Administration) at the Brigham Young University acquired, was also a member of the Board of Brigham Young University (BYU).

On April 9, 1970, Packer was ordained an apostle and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the second highest governing body in the governance system of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After serving as president between 1994 and 2008, he became president of the college on March 3, 2008, succeeding Thomas S. Monson .

On July 3, 2015, he died at the age of 90 at his home in old age .

In addition to his religious activities, Packer has published numerous books addressing issues of sexuality , the history of the promotion of faith, art, church and temple worship, and racism from the perspective of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His major publications include:
