The Jos. Baumgartner is an Austrian brewery based in Schärding , which is owned by the “non-profit Baumgartner Spanlang Foundation”.

history

There were always several breweries in Schärding. The parent company of the Baumgartner company within the former city walls was first mentioned in 1609. Since then, the company has been family-owned, in changing legal form . The aforementioned head office in Denisgasse also housed the company's headquarters until 2011. The Baumgartner- Bräustüberl "Wirtshaus zur Bums'n" is still there today. In 1938 the Niklas brewery was acquired in Niederwesen Castle in Wesenufer on the Danube. Marie Baumgartner finally married Othmar Spanlang, who eventually rose to the position of CEO and died unexpectedly in 1950 at the age of only 49. After his death, his widow took over the management.

Between 1950 and 1954 the new brewery was built on the outskirts of Schärding, directly opposite the brewhouse of the Kapsreiter brewery . In 1973 a large depot was set up in Linz in order to be able to better supply the Upper Austrian central area. After the death of the company boss Marie Spanlang (née Baumgartner) in 1989, the company with brewery and quarries was converted into a stock corporation, in which the newly established "non-profit Baumgartner-Spanlang Foundation" holds the majority. Based on the legacy of the founder Marie Spanlang, this foundation supports charitable institutions for disabled children and the elderly. In 2002 a new logistics hall for the brewery was opened in St. Florian am Inn . In the spring of 2011, a new administration building was opened and the company's headquarters were relocated from Denisgasse to the new administration building at Franz-Xaver-Brunner-Straße 1. At the same time, the Baumgartner brewery was converted from an AG to a GmbH .

Similar to the Kapsreiter Group , which is also based in Schärding , the Baumgartner company not only ran its brewery but also its own granite industry with quarries and gravel works in St. Florian am Inn, Schrems and Blauberg . The still existing Baumgartner quarries were incorporated into the "Baumgartner Spanlang Foundation" during the restructuring in 1989 as legally independent companies Bayerische Granit AG and Schärdinger Granit Industrie AG .

Infrastructure

Main building of the Baumgartner brewery

The main building of the Baumgartner brewery with brewhouse and warehouse is located on the edge of the historic Schärdingen city center near the Linzer Tor, only separated from the brewhouse of the competing Kapsreiter brewery by a narrow street . In the historic city center of Schärding, the head office is in Denisgasse with the Baumgartner- Bräustüberl "Wirtshaus zur Bums'n" as its own restaurant . The brewery has had a large depot in Linz since 1973 and a logistics center in St. Florian am Inn since 2002 . The Wesenufer site, which last specialized in the production of lemonades, was closed in 1993 after the Baumgartner brewery there (formerly the Niklas brewery) had been closed in 1975.

range

In addition to types of beer such as Märzen , Zwickl , Pils , Export or Weizenbier , the brewery also has mixed beer drinks and lemonades in its range.
