Breaking the Silence is the debut album by the US thrash metal band Heathen . It was released on May 1, 1987 via Combat Records .

Emergence

In 1984 Lee Altus , influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the large number of Thrash bands in the Bay Area (e.g. Exodus , Metallica and many more), began to set up his own band. After various line-up changes in the beginning, Heathen finally recorded Breaking the Silence as a debut album with the line-up of David Godfrey, Lee Altus, Doug Piercy, Mike Jastremski and Carl Sacco . In 1986 the band released the demo Pray for Death , which caused a sensation in the scene.

Through this demo the band managed to get their first record deal .

With Set Me Free , the album also includes a cover of the 1974 Sweet song. This song was released in 1987 as a single.
