The Evolution of Chaos is the third studio album by the US thrash metal band Heathen . It was released on January 29, 2010 via Mascot Records, 19 years after their last album Victims of Deception .
Emergence
The recordings took place at Trident Studios in the Californian city of Pacheco . The album was produced by Juan Urteaga . For cost reasons, the album was recorded in several sections, as Urteaga was busy recording for other bands. Originally Urteaga was supposed to do the mixing too , but the band didn't like the results. Finally, The Evolution of Chaos was mixed by Danish producer Jacob Hansen .
The band wrote seven new songs for the album and completed the album with the three songs from their demo from 2005. The songs "Control by Chaos" and "Undone" and "Red Tears of Disgrace" were performed by Kragen Lum , "Bloodcult" written by Jon Torres. All other titles are by Lee Altus . Except for "Undone" all lyrics were written by singer David White.
As a guest musician occur Sadus - bassist Steve DiGiorgio and Exodus - guitarist Gary Holt on. DiGiorgio plays the sitar on "Dying Season" and bass and e-bow on "No Stone Unturned" . Holt contributed a guitar solo for "Control by Chaos".
background
The album cover was designed by Travis Smith and shows a city destroyed by a war. People in the various stages of development walk over a footbridge and represent hominization . At the end of the footbridge, people fall as skeletons into the depths.
The song "A Hero's Welcome" is a dedication to American war heroes. Guitarist Lee Altus described the song as a tribute to the band Thin Lizzy .
“I didn't want to do a cover version , I wanted to write a Heathen song from a blueprint by Lizzy. This is our thanks to Phil Lynott for all the great music he gave us. "
