The Breitenbach is a 9.1 km, over the Vesser 13.5 km long, left tributary of the alder in the area of the city Schleusingen in the district of Hildburghausen , Thuringia .
Starting from the southern slope of the 849 m high Adlersberg , the stream flows primarily in a southerly direction. In the district of Breitenbach it leaves the wooded area of the Thuringian Forest and the red sandstone foreland and the Vesser flows into it from the left, which brings more water than the Breitenbach itself. About 3 km to the southwest, it finally flows into the Alder in St. Kilian.
Vesser and Breitenbach are both main arms of the lock's fan .
