The Breitenbachtalsperre is a dam in the southwest of the Rothaargebirge in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).
The dammed up still water , the 57.7 hectare Breitenbach reservoir , is the smaller of the two reservoirs of the Siegen-Wittgenstein water association ; the other or larger reservoir is the Obernautalsperre . The construction of the dam was decided on July 1, 1952 by the Siegen district council. It was built between 1953 and 1956 and increased from 1976 to 1980. The lake is used for drinking water supply and flood protection .
geography
The Breitenbachstausee is located in Siegerland about 12 km (as the crow flies ) north of Siegen on the southwestern roof of the Rothaar Mountains. It extends north of Dahlbruch and Allenbach, two western districts of Hilchenbach ; A little further west-southwest of the reservoir is Kreuztal . The dammed flowing water is the small Breitenbach, a northern tributary of the Ferndorfbach in the catchment area of the Sieg .
Technical
Reservoir
The Breitenbach reservoir, the water surface of which has an area of 57.7 ha (0.577 km²) at the highest storage target ( 370 m above sea level ), has around 7.8 million m³ of storage space and a catchment area of around 4.1 km² (with crossings 11.6 km²) area.
dam
The Breitenbach dam which the 1953-1956 at Hilchenbach as a dam built dam represents the Breitenbach dam was built in two phases with different designs. Its lower part is a rock embankment with a clay core seal , the part on the air side has an asphalt concrete inner seal.
The Breitenbach dam, which is 36.5 m high above the valley floor (dam crest: 372.5 m above sea level ) as well as 370 m crest length and 8 m crest width, has a dam volume of 680,000 m³.
The dam has an overflow tower with an overflow funnel as flood relief , an extraction tower at the water-side foot of the dam with four extraction heights, a hearth wall with a control passage under the old clay seal and a bottom drainage channel . The dam has three berms on the water side .
Freetime activities
Around the Breitenbach reservoir there is a 5.27 km long circular path for hiking, cycling (etc.). There are no other leisure activities at the lake due to its character as a drinking water reservoir.
Since August 1st, 2008, the Siegerland water association has opened a café and restaurant in the building of the former old caretaker's house directly at the dam.
