The Breitenberg near Hinterstein ( Bad Hindelang municipality , Oberallgäu district , Bavaria ) is a 1,893 meter high mountain in the Thumb Group , a mountain group within the Allgäu Alps .
location
It is a good six kilometers south of Hindelang and 1½ kilometers southwest of Hinterstein in the Ostrachtal , to the west runs the Retterschwang valley . Due to its exposed location to the surroundings, the mountain has a great dominance . Its northern flank rises above Hinterstein at an altitude of 1000 meters.
Base and routes for ascent
The base for an ascent is Hinterstein. From there, the summit can be reached in 3 hours on footpaths through woods, pastures and rocks. The Breitenberg can also be climbed by ascending the Hohe Gänge ridge from the Heubatspitze (2008 m) to the south via the Hindelang via ferrata .
Landslide
On May 6, 1966 , parts of the mountain slope broke off over a length of 400 m on the eastern slope of the Breitenberg and fell into the Ostrach valley .
