history

The Bremen Ice Hockey Club e. V. was founded in 1988. After a change in the management of the club in 1993, the club began to grow and focused primarily on young talent to secure ice hockey in Bremen in the long term. The number of members grew to 250 by the 2000s and to 300 by 2006. The youth work of the Bremen EC was honored in 1998 with the sponsorship award of the German Olympic Society. From the 1999/00 season, disabled sports were integrated into the club. The “sledge ice hockey” division was represented by a senior and a youth team in the mid-2000s.

For the 2009/10 season, the Bremer EC and REV Bremerhaven agreed on a syndicate that started under the name SG Weser Stars in the Regionalliga Nord . The venue was the Paradice in Bremen. The team replaced the previous first team of the Bremer EC and the 1b of the REV Bremerhaven. After the season, the syndicate was dissolved and the Bremer EC took over the name Weserstars Bremen for its first team. The Weser Stars moved up to the Oberliga Nord after a league reform and finished their first season in the third highest division in 6th place. 2013 followed the withdrawal from the Oberliga in the Regionalliga and the renaming of the Bremer EC in Weserstars Bremen eV In the 2013/14 season the Weserstars played in the Regionalliga Nord and were eliminated in the semifinals against the Wolfsburg Grizzlys after two exciting games. One season later in 2014/2015, the Weserstars lived up to their role as favorites and won the championship in the Regionalliga Nord. The Weserstars reached further championships in the fourth division in 2016 and 2018.
