Brett Engelhardt (born August 12, 1980 in Sheboygan , Wisconsin ) is a former American ice hockey player who has played in the DEL during his career for the Augsburg Panthers and Hamburg Freezers, among others .
Career
Brett Engelhardt began his career in 1998 as a hockey player with the Green Bay Gamblers , for which he played for a total of two years in the United States Hockey League . He then worked for the Michigan Tech ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association for four years . In his senior year at college, he made his professional ice hockey debut and also made two appearances with the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League . In the 2004/05 season Engelhardt was under contract both in the AHL with the St. John's Maple Leafs , and in the ECHL with the Gwinnett Gladiators . In the following two years, the American was on the ice with the AHL team Toronto Marlies .
On August 1, 2007 Engelhardt received a contract as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings , but played exclusively for their farm team Grand Rapids Griffins . On February 8, 2008, the Montréal Canadiens signed him in exchange for Francis Lemieux . Until the end of the season, however, he was only used in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Grand Rapids Griffins.
After these years, which were characterized by many club changes, the striker moved to Europe, where he initially signed a contract with the Augsburg Panthers from the DEL . After two strong seasons, he moved to the Hamburg Freezers , where he also completed two seasons. In June 2012 Engelhardt signed a contract with the then reigning Austrian champion EHC Black Wings Linz in the EBEL and ended his career after the contract expired in April 2013.
