Francis Lemieux (born February 22, 1984 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the EC Graz 99ers from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since 2013 .
Career
Francis Lemieux began his career in 2001 with the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi in the Canadian junior league QMJHL and he had a good rookie season . In the following two years he developed into an important pillar of the Saguenéens and reached the mark of 60 scorer points both times, making him one of the two best scorers of the team in both years. In his fourth season in the QMJHL, he set new personal records with 32 goals and 50 assists .
In the summer of 2005 he switched to the pros and received a contract with the Hamilton Bulldogs from the AHL . After he showed convincing performances in the first two months of the 2005/06 season , he also took the Montréal Canadiens from the NHL , for which the Bulldogs acted as a farm team , under contract. Lemieux stayed in Hamilton for the time being, where he brought his good debut season to an end with 18 goals and 22 assists. In his second season he weakened and was no longer used regularly, but won the Calder Cup with the Bulldogs at the end of the season .
In the 2007/08 season, the small but physically robust Lemieux continued to stumble and could not achieve a single goal in 33 games with Hamilton, after which he was transferred to the Grand Rapids Griffins within the league . There he was able to stabilize his performance again and came in the remaining 26 games of the season on six goals and five assists, so the Griffins extended his contract. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , however, he had a difficult position in the team. He was used in only ten of the first 24 games of the season and was rarely able to convince in his few appearances. After the first third of the season he got his regular seat back and played in a row with Evan McGrath and Francis Paré , which in December 2008 was the Griffins' strongest offensive formation. Lemieux was able to collect eleven points scorer in ten games, including his first hat trick . He followed up with another hat trick in the course of the season, but could not maintain his productivity in attack for a longer period of time, but was able to convince with his defensive and physical game.
In the 2009/10 season he moved from the Grand Rapids Griffins to large parts with the Las Vegas Wranglers in the ECHL , before his contract was terminated in late January 2010. On February 1st, the Vienna Capitals from the Austrian ice hockey league announced Lemieux's move to Austria. In the summer of 2010 he returned to the United States and began the 2010/11 season with the Manitoba Moose before Lemieux was sent to the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. In the following months he convinced with strong performances and led the scorer list in the ECHL with 72 points from 55 games. In February 2011 he was signed by the Connecticut Whale from the AHL for a try-out. In June 2011 the Canadian received a contract with the Heilbronner Falken from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .
