Brian Kidd Ridley

Brian Kidd Ridley , mostly quoted by BK Ridley, (born March 2, 1931 ) is a British theoretical solid-state physicist who deals with semiconductors (e.g. transport processes, modeling of components).

Ridley was 1956-1964 at the Mullard - Research Laboratories in Redhill operates. In 1964 he became a Lecturer , 1967 Senior Lecturer , 1971 Reader and 1984 Professor at the University of Essex . He had been a research professor since 1990 and retired in 2008.

He was visiting professor at Stanford University and Cornell University in 1967 (there again in 1976 and from 1990), 1969 at the Danish Technical University in Lyngby , 1977 at Lund University , 1981 at the University of California , Santa Barbara, 1983 at the Technical University University of Eindhoven and in 1973 at Princeton University .

Together with Tom Watkins and Cyril Hilsum , he presented a theory that explains the negative differential resistance in the Gunn diode (Ridley-Watkins-Hilsum theory, RWH).

In 2001 he received the Dirac Medal (IOP) . He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (1994) and the Institute of Physics (1972) and the American Physical Society (1992).
