Bridgeport is a community-free settlement and the seat of administration of Mono County in the US state of California . The place is located at an altitude of 1970 meters east of the Sierra Nevada on US Highway US-395 and had 575 inhabitants according to the 2010 census .
Bridgeport is located on the western edge of the Great Basin on the east arm of the Walker River , which has been dammed here since 1923 to form the Bridgeport Reservoir . The place lives mainly from tourism , especially fishing on the Walker River and other streams and lakes. Another tourist draw is the nearby ghost town of Bodie .
The Eastern Sierra Academy is located in Bridgeport , a small private preparatory school with only 25 students, which has received multiple outstanding quality certification from the high school ranking of Newsweek magazine .
Bridgeport acted as the setting for the well-known film noir Goldenes Gift (1947) with Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas .
